ER Tech
Responsibilities:
- Providing emergency care to patients in the ER by monitoring the patients’ temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
- Assisting with emergency medical processes, such as dressing wounds and administering stitches.
- Compiling all medical paperwork for patients, such as discharge instructions, medical aid documentation, and aftercare guidelines.
- Measuring and fitting patients with casts or crutches, and instructing patients on proper crutch walking.
- Taking medical samples from patients, such as blood or urine.
- Assisting doctors or nurses during medical procedures by handing them medical instruments and monitoring patients’ vital signs.
- Ensuring that patients receive their medication.
- Informing patients’ family members about the status of their condition as well as their medical needs.
- Helping the nursing and administrative staff with updating patients’ medical records.
Requirements:
- Basic life support (BLS) or emergency medical technician (EMT) certification, or similar.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in a hospital emergency room (ER) or medical center.
- Basic medical assessment skills, such as venipuncture, CPR, and EKG monitoring.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations.
- The ability to work well with a variety of patients, doctors, nurses, and administrative staff.
- The ability to translate complex medical jargon into accessible terms for patients.
- An aptness for caregiving and compassion for patients.
- Willingness to work shifts, long hours, as well as overtime, if needed.
