Infection Prevention and Surveillance: Conduct regular surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within the facility. Collect and analyze infection data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Policy and Procedure Development: Develop, implement, and update infection control policies and protocols to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (CDC, OSHA, etc.). Education and Training: Provide ongoing education and training to healthcare staff, patients, and visitors on proper infection control practices, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Risk Assessment: Assess and identify potential infection risks within the healthcare setting. Recommend and implement strategies to minimize the risk of infections, including environmental cleaning and disinfection protocols. Consultation: Serve as an infection control expert for healthcare teams, providing consultation on infection prevention strategies, patient care, and risk management. Outbreak Management: Monitor, investigate, and respond to infection outbreaks in the facility. Take immediate corrective actions and collaborate with local health departments to ensure effective containment. Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that infection control practices and regulations are consistently followed throughout the organization. Conduct regular audits and inspections of infection control practices in clinical and non-clinical areas. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of infection surveillance data, audits, and incident reports. Prepare reports on infection control activities for management and regulatory bodies. Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as Environmental Services, Pharmacy, and Clinical Care teams, to ensure infection control measures are integrated into all aspects of patient care. Research and Evidence-Based Practices: Stay up-to-date on the latest research and developments in infection control. Implement evidence-based practices to improve infection prevention and patient care outcomes. Skills and Qualifications: Educational Background: A Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license. A bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) is often preferred. Additional certification in infection control (CIC – Certified Infection Control) is highly desirable. Experience: Previous experience in infection control, public health, or clinical nursing is preferred, typically 2-3 years. Knowledge of Infection Control Standards: In-depth knowledge of infection control guidelines, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and regulatory standards (CDC, WHO, OSHA). Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, identify infection trends, and make recommendations for improvement based on surveillance results. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure compliance with infection control policies and procedures. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to educate staff, collaborate with other departments, and report findings to management and regulatory bodies. Problem-Solving: Ability to manage infection outbreaks, develop strategies for containment, and work in high-pressure situations. Training and Education: Ability to create and deliver effective training and educational materials for staff, patients, and visitors.
