Position Overview: The Staff Nurse at Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital is an integral member of our healthcare team, providing direct patient care and support under the supervision of senior nursing personnel and physicians. The Staff Nurse ensures the highest quality of patient care, maintains patient safety, and fosters a healing environment that respects the dignity and comfort of all patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Assessment: Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, and overall patient condition.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians or authorized medical professionals.
  • Implementation of Care Plans: Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to treatments and interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary in collaboration with the supervising physician.
  • Clinical Procedures & Documentation: Perform clinical procedures such as wound care, intravenous line placements, catheterization, and specimen collection accurately and safely.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Patient & Family Education: Educate patients and their families about specific conditions, post-procedure care, and medication administration.
  • Provide guidance on health promotion, disease prevention, and lifestyle modifications when relevant.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with doctors, senior nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure seamless, multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate actively in handover meetings and team discussions to provide comprehensive patient information.
  • Emergency Response & Safety: Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and crises, following established emergency protocols.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, infection control measures, and hospital policies to minimize risk to patients and staff.
  • Quality Assurance & Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research to enhance nursing practices and patient outcomes.
  • Suggest and implement innovative approaches to improve patient satisfaction and nursing care delivery.
  • Professional Development: Keep current with advances in nursing practices, hospital protocols, and healthcare technology through continuous education.
  • Attend relevant workshops, training sessions, and conferences to maintain and upgrade clinical competencies.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing or GNM) from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration with the State Nursing Council.
  • Experience: Prior 5 years of minimum clinical or teaching experience.
  • Experience in specialized departments (e.g., ICU, Emergency, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology) is an advantage.
  • Technical/Clinical Skills: Proficiency in basic nursing procedures, medication administration, and patient care processes.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (EMR) and basic computer skills.
  • Soft Skills & Competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a patient-centric mindset.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Additional Requirements: Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays, as per patient care needs.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Nurse-in-Charge or Nursing Supervisor. Collaborates closely with attending physicians, senior nursing staff, and other allied health professionals.

Working Conditions: Fast-paced, multi-specialty hospital environment requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and patient interaction. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with safety protocols is mandatory.
