Job Description: Ophthalmology Research Assistant
Assist doctors and researchers in designing, conducting, and analyzing clinical and laboratory research projects related to ophthalmology.
- Collect, organize, and maintain research data, ensuring accuracy and integrity in data management.
- Provide statistical support using appropriate software (e.g., SPSS, R, Excel) to analyze clinical data.
- Assist in preparing research reports and presentations, including the organization of data for visual representation.
- Schedules study participant appointments and serves as the patient liaison to the Principal Investigator (PI) and other participating consultants.
- Collecting study data from EMR and other instruments of participants of clinical studies being carried out in the department
- Facilitates and coordinates the daily clinical trial activities and plays a critical role in the conduct of the study.
- Reviews and comprehends each assigned protocol including study proceedings and timelines, inclusion and exclusion criteria, confidentiality and privacy protections.
- Working closely with the PI, participates in an integral way in the informed consent process by communicating clearly and openly with potential study patients about protocols.
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of the informed consent process as well as a thorough understanding of the study protocol(s) in order to be able to answer all questions pertaining to the study posed during the informed consent process.
- Conducting clinical tests for study participants at pre-operative and scheduled post operative visits
2. Educational Program Support:
- Assist in coordinating and managing CME, workshops, and seminars
- Guide students with their thesis, ensuring they follow proper research methodology, data collection, and analysis techniques.
- Provide mentorship and support to students in preparing research proposals and projects, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
- Assist students in writing, formatting, and reviewing research papers, theses, and dissertations.
3. Assistance with Publications & Presentations:
- Help doctors and researchers in the publication process, including drafting, reviewing, and formatting research papers for peer-reviewed journals, CTRI registration.
- Provide guidance on manuscript preparation, citation management, and addressing reviewer comments.
- Assist in preparing clinical presentations and posters for academic and professional conferences.
- Ensure proper referencing and adherence to publication standards and guidelines.
4. Statistical Analysis & Tools:
- Co-ordinate with Biostatistician for conduct of statistical analysis of clinical trial data, patient outcomes, and other research-related data.
- Create and maintain databases for research purposes and provide regular updates to researchers.
5. Ethical Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure that all research activities comply with ethical guidelines and institutional ethics committee requirements.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of research protocols, ethical reviews, and consent forms.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of research activities, publications, and educational programs.
6. Collaboration with Healthcare Staff:
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare supportive staff to ensure smooth implementation of research projects.
- Facilitate communication between the research team and other hospital departments to ensure the timely collection of data.
- Assist in organizing clinical trials, ensuring proper patient recruitment, informed consent, and adherence to research protocols.
7. Continuous Learning & Development:
- Stay updated with the latest research trends, statistical tools, and technological advancements in ophthalmology and research methodologies.
- Participate in training sessions, conferences, and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of ophthalmic research.
