Staff Nurse

The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients across various settings, including the casualty department, emergency room (ER), and general hospital wards. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in these critical areas, working closely with doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. General Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care to patients in the casualty, emergency, and ward settings, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients at all times.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with doctors, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient needs, ensuring high standards of care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment in all patient areas.
  • Assist with the documentation and recording of patient information, including medical history, progress, and treatment plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on healthcare conditions, treatment options, and post-treatment care.

2. Casualty Department:

  • Assess patients who present with injuries, accidents, or sudden illnesses.
  • Provide immediate care, including triage, wound care, and life-saving interventions.
  • Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and assist in emergency surgeries or interventions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of triage protocols and emergency care procedures.
  • Prepare and monitor patients before and after surgery or intensive care.

3. Emergency Room (ER):

  • Quickly assess patients presenting with acute conditions, ensuring prioritization of care based on urgency (triage).
  • Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and provide immediate interventions, such as pain relief, wound care, and administration of emergency medications.
  • Assist in managing life-threatening conditions, including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or trauma.
  • Monitor patient progress and report any changes in patient condition to the attending physician.
  • Support and assist doctors during medical procedures or diagnostic tests.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining treatment options, interventions, and recovery plans.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment in the ER.

4. Ward (Inpatient Care):

  • Provide ongoing care for patients admitted to the ward, including monitoring, medication administration, and documentation.
  • Carry out routine checks on vital signs and overall health, reporting any abnormal findings.
  • Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Coordinate with physicians for medical interventions, including administering prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care to patients, ensuring comfort and minimizing complications.
  • Offer emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout the hospitalization process.
  • Prepare and assist patients in the transition for discharge, ensuring all follow-up instructions are clearly understood.
  • Document nursing interventions and observations accurately in patient records.
