Job Title: Freelance Research – Public Health Data Analyst – HPV Screening Algorithm Evaluation

Job Purpose: The Public Health Data Analyst will be responsible for simulating and comparing the performance of newly developed extended genotyping PCR-HPV based screening and follow-up algorithms against existing screening protocols. The primary goal is to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of these algorithms in preventing cervical cancer, using a cohort model based on the natural history of HPV infection in Chile. The role will involve analyzing large datasets, developing and running simulations, and evaluating the impact of screening strategies on public health outcomes.

Required Qualification: Master’s degree or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field. A background in HPV infection progression, screening algorithms, and cancer prevention is preferred.

Tools to be Familiar:

  • Statistical Software: R, Python, or similar tools for cohort modeling, data analysis, and simulation.
  • Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Tools: Experience with tools like TreeAge, Excel, or other economic modeling software.
  • Epidemiological and Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in biostatistical methods, sensitivity analysis, and cohort simulation techniques.

Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in public health data analysis, epidemiology, or health economics, with a focus on screening programs, cancer prevention, or disease modeling. Experience in working with genomic datasets, particularly HPV genotyping data, and understanding of PCR-based testing methods. Familiarity with cost-effectiveness analysis and evaluating health interventions. Previous involvement in simulation modeling for public health, especially in the field of cancer screening or infectious disease prevention.

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of HPV Infection and Cervical Cancer Progression: Understanding of HPV genotypes, screening methods, and clinical guidelines (especially those relevant to Chile).
  • Statistical and Modeling Skills: Ability to design and execute cohort simulations, sensitivity analysis, and perform statistical evaluations of screening protocols.
  • Health Economics: Familiarity with cost-effectiveness evaluations, including understanding metrics such as cost per case detected and cost per cancer prevented
  • Communication Skills: Ability to prepare comprehensive reports, present findings clearly, and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in handling and analyzing large datasets and ensuring the accuracy of simulation results.

  • Literature Review: Gather data on HPV infection, screening, and treatment from sources like IARC and WHO, with a focus on Chile.
  • Cohort Simulation: Develop a fictitious cohort based on HPV progression, using age-specific rates and treatment pathways to simulate algorithm responses.
  • Algorithm Implementation: Encode MINSAL 2015, CINtec PLUS, and new algorithms into a simulation model, incorporating screening, follow-up, and treatment.
  • Simulation Execution: Run 20-year simulations and collect data on HPV detection, cancer progression, and treatment costs.
  • Analysis: Compare detection rates, cancer incidence, and cost-effectiveness, conducting sensitivity analysis on key variables.
  • Reporting: Prepare a concise report with findings, visualizations, and actionable recommendations for the team
